Time and Talent Opportunities

St. Michael Catholic Church - Time and Talent Opportunities

Lord Jesus, You came to tell us that the meaning of life consists of giving. It is service rendered to you and others that brings fulfillment and makes our lives worthwhile.

The following lists many opportunities available in our parish. We invite and encourage each parishioner to participate in at least one activity each year in addition to the fall festival. This is a great way to meet other parishioners and build lasting friendships. In giving, we shall receive...

CHURCH AFFILIATE GROUPS
Catholic Aid Fraternal Catholic organization doing fundraisers for the parish and parish school.
Community Caring for Life Provides concrete help for practical needs, emotional and spiritual support, hospitality and acceptance to women and families.
Knights of Columbus A Catholic Men’s Fraternal Society.
Catholic Order of Foresters Fraternal insurance organization that does activites for the church and community.
Council of Catholic Women Women who support our faith community through charitable services, bake sales, graduation breakfasts, etc.
Respect Life Working with Pro-Life issues with the Archdiocesan Respect Life office.

COMMITTEES
Art/Environment Meets as needed to discuss new items/furnishings for church as well as seasonal decorating.
Adult Enrichment Members oversee the ongoing adult catechetical needs of the parish.
Finance Members review parish finances from monthly reports and seek ways to maintain and/or increase giving. They have a major input into the yearly budget. Meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month. Members are appointed by the pastor.
Liturgy Plans liturgical seasons, liturgical environment and special liturgies. Meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month.
Maintenance Meets as needed to review and maintain the needs of the parish and school grounds.
Perpetual Adoration Members oversee the scheduling of this ministry in our parish.
Preservation Provides input into the preservation of our Historic church. They consider what financial methods can be used to obtain funds for the preservation of the Historic church. Meets one Monday per month.
Stewardship Develop ways to utilize the time and talents of all parishioners into our volunteer ministries. Meets the 4th Tuesday of the month.
Education Advisory* Members oversee all needs and policies of the Catholic School and assist in setting the school’s future direction. Meets 1st Tuesday of the month. Members are elected annually.
Parish Pastoral Council* Serves with the pastor and trustees in a consultative manner in the administration of spiritual, educational and financial matters. Meets 3rd Tuesday of month. Members elected annually.
REYAC* Members oversee all needs, policies and assists in setting future direction of the Youth & Religious Education programs. Meets 2nd Monday of the month. Members are elected annually.
*Members of these committees are elected members.

FAITH IN ACTION
Assist Father at Friday Mass Help Father with Mass at the Senior Apartments on Ridge Drive on the first Friday of the month.
Befrienders Listening partner for a member of my parish who is in transition due to loss, illness, age etc.
Cana Dinner Assist in planning the next Cana dinner (Feb) to celebrate Marriage with St. Alberts.
Caring & Sharing Hands Driver Uses own vehicle to transport food down to Sharing & Caring Hands on Thursday mornings.
Caring & Sharing Hands Preparer Prepares the meal for Caring & Sharing Hands on Thursday mornings.
Giving Wreath/Giving Tree Help coordinate this mission during advent.
Living Stations Participants demonstrate the steps that Jesus took to lead us to salvation.
Mission Quilt Sewing Sewing quilts for the missions.
Perpetual Adoration Spend 1 hour in prayer every week with the Blessed Sacrament in the chapel.
Prayer Chain Prays for those who are requesting prayers in time of illness or other needs.
Thanksgiving/Christmas Baskets Adopt a family during the holidays.
Welcoming Families Meet with a new family and introduce them to other parishioners.

FAITH GROUPS
Bible Study Learn more about my faith through bible studies.
Faith Sharing Groups Learn more about my faith through sharing with other members of my parish.
St. Michael Fraternity A group of men meet with Fr.Michael for prayer, fellowship and theological study on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month from 7:00 – 8:45 am.
St. Michael Sorority A group of women meet with Fr. Michael for prayer, fellowship and theological study on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month from 7:00 – 8:45 pm.

FUNERALS

Food Volunteer Provides a salad or dessert for funeral luncheons.
Phone Caller for Food Calls the people on the food volunteer list for funerals.
Prepare/Serve Luncheons Helps prepare and serves food at funerals.
Resurrection Choir Sings at Funeral masses.

MARRIAGE PREPARATION

Prayer Partner Prays for the engaged couple as they prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage.
Volunteer Married Couple Meets with engaged couples to discuss points brought out in the FOCCUS inventory.
Wedding Coordinator Meets with the couple to make sure everything is in order. Oversees various things on wedding day.

MINISTRIES
Altar Server Assist Father at mass. Must be in 6th grade or older.
Extraordinary Minister Distributes bread and/or precious blood during mass. Must be confirmed.
EM (Homebound) Takes communion to a homebound parishioner.
Greeter Greets and welcomes people as they come to mass.
Mass Coordinator Ensure that everything is in order for mass. Verifies that all volunteers have signed in. Informs Father of anything that needs to be addressed prior to mass.
Nursery Volunteer Caring for children from infant to 4 years old in the church nursery during mass on a rotating basis.
Providing a ride to mass To assist a parishioner to church by proving a ride at either a weekday or weekend mass.
Reader Participates in reading the opening greetings, Liturgy of the Word, Prayers of the Faithful and announcements.
Rosary Leader Leads congregation in the rosary at the church.
Sacristan Prepares the Credence, Side and Gift tables prior to mass. Assist extraordinary ministers during communion.
Sound Technicians Oversees the mixer during mass to ensure quality sound during mass.
Usher Greet , direct and assist people as they come to church. Help gather the collection and distribute bulletins. Must be 9th grade or older.
Petition Writer Writes the petitions for mass.
Offering Counter Counts the weekend collection on Monday mornings at 9:00 at Great Northern Bank.
Church Cleaners Meets early Monday mornings to clean church/bathrooms/gathering space.
Linen Cleaners Purifying and washing of all linens on Monday mornings.
Sanctuary Cleaners Weekly cleaning of sanctuary on a rotating basis.

MUSIC
Adult Choir Rehearses on Wednesday evenings and typically sings at the Sunday 8:30 am mass.
Cantor Leads the assembly in song during the liturgy.
Children's Choir Children in grades 2 – 6 who enjoy singing.
Christian Pop Group Sings and plays at the 6:00 pm Sunday evening mass. Vocalists, drummers and guitarists are welcome.
Contemporary Groups Small choir groups that sing contemporary Christian music.
Instrumentalists Play for the choir or small groups.
Resurrection Choir Sings at Funeral masses.
Teen Choir A great opportunity for young adults grade 7 – 12 to have fun and stay connected to church.

RCIA
RCIA Daycare Provide care in the church nursery for children of RCIA candidates and their sponsors during RCIA events.
RCIA Prayer Partner Pray for the RCIA candidates as they prepare to become members of the Catholic Faith.
RCIA Refreshments Prepare and serve refreshments during RCIA meetings, which are typically Monday evenings.
RCIA Sponsor Support and share your faith with a person desiring initiation into the Catholic Church.
RCIA Team Work with a team that leads the RCIA process.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Sunday School Teacher Teach 3yr old through 1st grade during one of the Sunday morning masses.
2nd-5th Grade Teacher Sessions are: Mon evenings or Wed afternoons.
6th-8th Grade Teacher Wed evenings from 6:15 to 7:30 from Oct to April.
9th or 10th Grade Teacher These students will be participating in the Sacrament of Confirmation. Classes are Wed evenings from 7:45 to 9:00 Oct – April.
Substitute Teacher Fill in as needed for regular RE teachers.
RE Daycare Provide care to the children of RE teachers in the nursery from Oct – April.
Early Catholic Family Life This program emphasizes the importance of putting faith at the center of family life at the earliest years. The free 5 week, 2 hour class, consists of a parent-child interaction component, a parent discussion time and a children’s time.
1st Communion Preparation Adults will assist with Learning Centers once a year.
Vacation Bible School Help in various ways during this week long program in August.
RE Misc Volunteer Assist in the RE program as needed with various duties.

SPECIAL PROJECTS
Arts/Graphics Skills Help with banners or other creative projects as needed.
Bulletin Stuffer Helps insert flyers on Friday mornings.
Camcorder Operator Video and share parish events as needed.
Computer Graphics Create materials for parish as needed.
Construction Projects To apply carpentry skills with special projects as needed.
Fall Festival Committee Participate in planning the Fall festival, which is in September.
Outdoor Projects Gardening and assisting with clean up or repair around church as needed.
Painting Projects To paint or stain at church as needed.
Photographer Take and share photographs at parish events as needed.
Plumbing Projects To apply plumbing skills to projects at church as needed.
Spring Fundraiser Committee Participate in planning the Spring Festival.

YOUTH PROGRAMS
ARMOR Retreat Team Youth from our parish are involved in ministry with youth in area parishes.
Chaperones Adults at youth events as needed.
Extreme Faith Camp Junior high youth spend a week each summer at Camp Koinoia experience daily mass, prayer, recreation, small groups etc.
Jr. High Friday Fun Night Meets for fun, fellowship and prayer twice a month between Oct and May. (6th –8th graders)
Sr. High Friday Fun Night Meets for fun, fellowship, prayer, movies, and open gym from Oct to May.
Lifeline Mass 8th – 12th grade youth take a bus to the NET center on the First Saturday of the month from Sept through May.
Steubenville Weekend Weekend retreat- Senior high students.
Winterblast Lock-in Junior High youth spend a night with hundreds of other Catholic youth from around the diocese attending mass, watching movies and participating in other activities.
Youth Mission Trip 9th – 12th grade youth go on a mission trip for a week during the summer.
