| Altar Server |
The altar servers assist the priest presiding
at mass. There are different duties for each server, such
as the Thurifer (carries the censer); the Crossbearer,
and the two candle bearers. Each server has specific responsibilities.
In addition to weekend masses, servers are also asked
to serve at special liturgies.
In our parish, the altar servers may be girls or boys.
They must be in 6th grade or older.
It is crucial that all mass servers are mature and reverent
during mass. |
| Extraordinary Minister |
Extraordinary Ministers distribute
the body and blood of our Lord and experience the profound
level of significance that the Eucharist holds in the
life of the church. A spirit of reverent service to Christ,
present in the Eucharist, is at the very heart of this
ministry.
This is a grace ministry. By serving as a minister of
Communion, you will be witnessing Christ’s own loving
service to the members of the parish community.
In order to serve in this ministry, you must have received
the Sacrament of Confirmation. Prior to serving, your
name is submitted to Father Michael and to the bishop
in our archdiose for approval.
Because of the increased number of extraordinary ministers
required in our new worship space, we are in great need
of more extraordinary ministers. We will accommodate any
ministers who prefer to distribute the Sacred Body ONLY
or the Precious Blood ONLY.
Please pray and look into your heart to see if the Lord
is calling you in this ministry.

| Greeter/Usher |
A Greeter/Usher welcomes and invites
people as they gather for mass. They are ministers of
hospitality. They should be easily visible if someone
needs assistance or directions to a particular area in
the church. Ushers may help seat people or assist the
physically disabled or elderly. They inquire if anyone
needs to have communion brought to them in their pew.
They assist in handing out any worship aids for Mass.
Ushers take up the collection and help direct the congregation
at communion time. They distribute bulletins and other
materials as needed. Ushers are observant and stay alert
should they need to assist someone that becomes ill or
has a medical emergency. After mass, ushers ensure that
everything is in order in church and in the gathering
space. To serve as an usher in our parish, you must be
in 9th grade or older. |
| Mass Coordinator |
The Mass coordinator ministry is new in our parish.
This ministry started in our parish last December when
we moved into our new worship space. The mass coordinator
is responsible for opening the church prior to mass. They
oversee and have an understanding of all of the other
liturgical ministries. They ensure that all volunteers
scheduled to serve have arrived and communicate any pertinent
information to the volunteers if necessary. They handle
any issues that come up prior to mass. The mass coordinator
is the only person that should interrupt Father, as he
prayerfully prepares for mass, with questions or concerns
that need to be addressed prior to mass. After mass, the
mass coordinator makes sure that everything is in order
and that the church is closed up properly. To serve as
a mass coordinator, you must be an adult. Mass coordinators
are needed at all weekend masses and Holy Days of Obligation. |

4 years old in the church nursery during mass on a rotating

| Providing a ride to mass |
To assist a parishioner to church by proving a ride
at either a weekday or weekend mass. |
| Reader |
Public reading of the Scriptures is
a very important ministry, which needs to be done with
competence and skill in order that the worship of the
community can take place. In our parish, we have two readers
at each mass. One of the readers welcomes the congregation
to the celebration. Each reader proclaims a reading from
the bible. One reads the Prayers of the Faithful if there
is no deacon at mass. At the end of mass, they make any
necessary announcements. To be an effective reader there
needs to be adequate preparation, which includes study,
prayer and practice. Readers should have a loud, clear
and unhurried speaking voice. Readers should be in High
school or older, preferably confirmed, to be in this ministry.

| Sacristan |
A Sacristan’s role is to prepare
the items needed at the altar for Mass. This includes
preparing the Credence table which holds all of the sacred
vessels. They prepare the Side Table, which is for the
extraordinary ministers to wash their hands prior to distributing
communion. They also prepare the Gifts Table. They light
the altar candles and prepare the charcoal, if incense
will be used. As communion is distributed, the Sacristan
stands at the Credence table so they may assist an extraordinary
minister if additional hosts are needed. After mass, they
oversee that all of the vessels are purified prior to
washing and that everything is put back into order.
To serve as a Sacristan, you must have received the
Sacrament of Confirmation. Sacristans are needed at
all masses, including weekdays and funerals masses
